Here Comes the Ice

The winter weather has finally settled in with Mt. Washington getting several feet of snow, 100+ mph winds, and -55 degree windchills. All of this snow and cold has got the ice forming rapidly despite it’s late start. We have had a few days out there climbing Standard Route at Frankenstein, Willey’s Slide, Elephant Head Gully And Trestle Gully. The majority of the climbable ice is still in higher elevations (Ravines and Crawford Notch) but it is rapidly spreading to places like Cathedral Ledge, Champney Falls, and Frankenstein. In the next week or so we’ll start to see many routes have their first ascent of the year. You can check out conditions for yourself at We have had a great time so far this winter with our clients and we are looking forward to getting back on Washington this Saturday now that it has a fresh blanket snow! Stay tuned for pictures from that adventure!100_0347100_0303_MG_6739100_0332
