WINTER IS NOW IN THE WHITE MOUNTAINS

WITH ALMOST 2 FEET OF SNOW ON WASHINGTON AND ICE BUILDING, COLD TEMPS THE EXCITEMENT IS RAMPANT.

Over the past week the summit of Mount Washington has seen nearly 2 feet of snowfall and the higher elevations are full on winter conditions. With the mild temperatures this time of year it is the perfect time to get into the mountains without the crowds! Just be careful of your footing, it can be tricky since the rocks aren’t filled in with snow and ice, yet. When you’re in need of traction – or any other rental gear- this winter, head over to climbingrentals.com. We’ve got you covered.

The high elevation ski resorts are open. Bretton Woods, Wildcat and Cannon to name some of the surrounds hills with the lifts running. In Vermont the backcountry seen is popping off and people are getting out and posting photos online daily. With the massive growth in backcountry skiing, many resorts have introduced uphill ski passes this year – for those of us who prefer to earn our turns.

Contact Us if you are interested in joining the fun! We have a backcountry program for the resort skier looking to skin for the first time, the seasoned skier looking for technical skills to relish the world of skimo and everyone in between!

AIARE Avalanche Courses are a must! Avalanches are hard to predict and they are often unforgiving. Without any education you are woefully unprepared to recreate in avy terrain. Enhance your knowledge base and establish yourself as an asset to the backcountry skiing community!

Heck, some of the guys around here have even been ice climbing in Tuckerman’s Ravine and although extremely thin, the ice is forming well on Mount Willard. If the weather stays cold then we should be in darn good shape soon!
