It’s time to take traditional rappelling to the next level! Waterfall rappelling allows you to lower yourself down a 100+ foot waterfall with the spectacular scenery of the White Mountains all around you. Enjoy a short, scenic hike into the falls before you scramble to the top of the falls and rappel back down. This is a once in a lifetime experience and NEM is excited to have brought this adventure to New Hampshire.

During this adventure, you can sit out any rappels that you are not comfortable with and there is always a walk down option. All rappels are backed-up by a secondary rope controlled by your guide making this an amazing experience with minimum risk.

We will meet at the Bunkhouse at Northeast Mountaineering in Bartlett, NH. After outfitting you with all of the appropriate gear, we will enjoy a 25 minute scenic drive to the trailhead through areas that moose and bear are known to inhabit. Once at the trailhead we have a half-mile hike into the falls before the action begins! Each participant will have the opportunity to rappel the falls at least 3 times depending on the group size. After the rappelling ends, we will return to the Bunkhouse to get into some dry clothes and relax.

Please bring sneakers, water shoes, strap-on sandals or hiking boots that can get soaked as you will be standing in water at times. Also please wear synthetic materials that will dry out quicker than cotton such as wool, polyester, or techwick. We recommend that you wear a t-shirt and shorts because you will be wearing a harness and it may be uncomfortable in a bikini or shirtless. You will appreciate having a towel and a dry shirt for after the fun has ended. A small backpack to carry these items plus some food and water is recommended.

Northeast Mountaineering will provide helmets, harnesses, belay devices and ropes. All you need to bring with you is a camera and a smile!

On the Rappelling Course you will need one lunch and several snacks.

Lunch / Snacks

Your “lunches” are taken in the field throughout the day during short 10 to 15 minute breaks. We suggest crackers, pizza, candy bars, jerky, chips, cookies, trail mix, fruits, Gu, energy bars, and hard candies. Drink mixes such as Gatorade and Kool-Aid help flavor your water. Add peanut butter, cream cheese, hard cheese, or pepperoni for additional calories and taste. If you enjoy bread items, bagels work well. Include some salty snacks to replenish lost salts.

Please read through the following frequently asked questions and answers. These will help you prepare for your trip and get a better understanding of what to expect. Thanks!

What time does the program begin?
We will meet at 8AM at our bunkhouse in Bartlett, NH. We will take 30 minutes to outfit you with any rental gear you need and head out to the cliffs.

Will hiking boots or sneakers work?
Yes. There will be a short hike to the top of the waterfall so make sure you wear sneakers, strap-on sandals or water shoes.

How long do we rappel for?
We usually arrive at the waterfall between 9AM and 9:30AM. We will arrive back at the bunkhouse around 3PM.

What should I wear?
Please bring sneakers, water shoes, strap-on sandals or hiking boots that can get soaked as you will be standing in water at times. Also please wear synthetic materials that will dry out quicker than cotton such as wool, polyester, or techwick. We recommend that you wear a t-shirt and shorts because you will be wearing a harness and it may be uncomfortable in a bikini or shirtless. You will appreciate having a towel and a dry shirt for after the fun has ended. A small backpack to carry these items plus some food and water is recommended.

Is it safe?
Rappelling is very safe when conducted properly, especially when assisted by a guide. Our guides are trained to mitigate the dangers and other inherent hazards.

How many people are in a group?
We offer a maximum ratio of 4 clients per guide for rappelling courses.

Are there age restrictions?
As long as you are approved for vigorous activity and/or you have a parent/guardian signature and you fit into the harness, you are welcome to join us!

There will be no refunds for cancellations made less than 7 days before your program. Unfortunately, due to the time-sensitive nature of our business, and the difficulty in re-booking a trip close to departure, we cannot make exceptions to this policy.

Change of Date

Date changes are subject to availability and apply only to the current climbing season. Date changes may be requested at anytime up to 7 days prior to your departure date for a $25 fee per person. Date changes may be requested at anytime up to 3 days prior to your departure date for a $50 fee per person. There are no date changes allowed less than 2 days before departure.

Risk Management

Safety is NEM’s number one priority. Our guides manage significant hazards inherent in mountaineering such as avalanches, ice fall, rock fall, inclement weather, and high winds, but they cannot eliminate them. NEM guides draw from their wealth of experience and training to make sound decisions that improve your chance of reaching the summit without compromising the necessary margin of safety.
Please clearly understand that mountaineering is inherently a hazardous sport. You are choosing to engage in an activity in which participants have been injured and killed. While those accidents are indeed infrequent, they may occur at any time and be out of our control. We ask that participants acknowledge the risk and hazards of mountaineering, and make their own choices about whether or not to engage in this activity.

General Policies

NEMs program plans and itineraries are subject to change or adjustment based on a number of factors. These include, but are not limited to, route conditions, weather, terrain, and many other factors. NEM has complete discretion to change plans to accommodate any of these or other factors, including discretion to change program schedule or itinerary, and change guides or staff, as necessary for the proper and safe conduct of the program.
We reserve the right to cancel any program due to inadequate signups, weather or route conditions. In such a case, a full refund is given; however, NEM cannot be responsible for any additional expenses incurred in preparing for the program (i.e., airline tickets, equipment purchase or rental, hotel reservations).
NEM reserves the right to dismiss the Participant from a trip at any time if NEM determines, in its sole discretion, that the Participant is not physically, technically, or psychologically prepared for or capable of participating in the program.

Summit Attempt

Northeast Mountaineering cannot guarantee that you will reach the summit. Weather, route conditions, your own abilities or the abilities of others may create circumstances that make an ascent unsafe, and you or your entire party will have to turn around without reaching the summit. Your program fee entitles you to one summit attempt on your specified dates.

Very creative adventure for the non technical climber. Well run. Will take a group there next year.

My husband and I had an awesome time. The place was really nice, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They helped make the day great! I would definitely recommend this place to people. I can’t wait to go back and do something again with them!

We are so happy with NEM! They have an outstanding crew that went above and beyond to make sure my children felt comfortable repelling down the waterfall. It was one of the best experiences of our lives! We will most definitely be back!

The guides are great! We had an amazing time and would definitely go back for another adventure!

I had a wonderful time with my 13 yr old son. Its a beautiful area to do a little hiking and repelling. This was our first waterfall repelling and will do it again. The guides/instructors were great too!

Had a great time waterfall repelling today. Guide were informed and safe.

Awesome day on the waterfall! Experience that I won’t forget. Thanks for the memories!

We had a great time, thank you

Northeast mountaineering was awesome! Highly recommend them!

Had a great time and would go again. Everyone was very friendly… Great experience.

Coming from Boston, we probably would not have found this company without Groupon, but I do not know of any company closer that would provide anything similar in experience. We are highly talking this up. Thank you!

Awesome adventure!

Fantastic knowledgeable experienced staff

Loved it! Didn’t know the business existed before Groupon. The only problem was that the group size was too big- too much waiting. Guides were great!

Decided to go because I saw it on Groupon. Probably wouldn’t have come across it otherwise.

Brett was very friendly and i would absolutely be interested in another type of climb in the future with this company. Ice climbing sounds awesome.

I didn’t know about the place before seeing the groupon.
