New Hampshire's Home For Waterfall Rappelling

It’s time to take traditional rappelling to the next level! Bring your family and friends to rappel one of New Hampshire's magnificent, 100+ foot waterfalls with the spectacular scenery of the White Mountains all around you. Enjoy a short, scenic hike into the falls before you scramble to the top of the falls and rappel back down. Each participant will rappel up to 3 times! This is a once in a lifetime experience and NEM is excited to have brought this adventure to New Hampshire.

During this adventure, you can sit out any rappels that you are not comfortable with and there is always a walk down option. All rappels are backed-up by a secondary rope and a mountain guide making this an amazing experience with minimum risk.

What time does the program begin and how long will be rappel for?

WATERFALL RAPPELLING
You will meet your guides at The Bunkhouse at Northeast Mountaineering in Bartlett, NH at your designated time. We will take 30 minutes to outfit you with any rental gear, watch an introduction video and learn to rappel at The Bunkhouse.

Monday-Thursday: Waterfall Adventures meet at 10am and return around 3pm.
Friday-Sunday: Morning session meets at 8am and return around 1pm. Afternoon session meets at 1pm and return around 6pm.

CLIFF RAPPELLING
You will meet your guides at The Bunkhouse at Northeast Mountaineering in Bartlett, NH at 8am. We will take 30 minutes to outfit you with any rental gear and learn to rappel at The Bunkhouse before heading over to the local cliff.

Do we have to hike to the waterfall or cliff?

The Hike to Ripley Falls is 0.5 miles and usually take approximately 20-30 minutes. The trail is classified as Easy/Moderate by White Mountain standards. These standards may differ from the ratings you are used to. It is uphill the entire way and there are many roots, rocks, mud, and loose footing. The last 0.1 mile of the trail to the top of the waterfall is particularly steep and requires care. This adventure also requires an easy river crossing. Participants need to be able to walk on rough, rugged trails, have a solid sense of balance, and be in reasonable physical shape.

Is there a weight limit?

For insurance and safety reasons, our weight limit for the rappelling adventures is 250lbs. The maximum waist size is 38 inches. For our younger adventurists, we have kids harnesses that will fit ages 6 and up.

What kind of footwear should I wear?

For Waterfall Rappelling, please wear strap on sandals, sneakers, watershoes or hiking boots. For Cliff Rappelling, please wear sneakers or hiking boots.

What should I wear?

Please wear synthetic materials that will dry out quicker than cotton such as wool, polyester, or techwick. For Waterfall Rappelling, please bring sneakers, water shoes, strap-on sandals or hiking boots that can get soaked as you will be standing in water at times. You will appreciate having a towel and a dry shirt for after the fun has ended.A small backpack to carry these items plus some food and water is recommended. For Cliff Rappelling, please wear comfortable activewear. We recommend that you wear a t-shirt and shorts because you will be wearing a harness. Is it safe?

Rappelling is very safe when conducted properly, especially when assisted by a guide. Our guides are trained to mitigate the dangers and other inherent hazards.

How many people are in a group?

We offer a maximum ratio of 4 clients per guide for rappelling courses - typically 8 participants with 2 guides.

Are there age restrictions?

As long as you are approved for vigorous activity and/or you have a parent/guardian signature and you fit into the harness, you are welcome to join us!
Our goal is to make your mountain adventure as memorable and comfortable as possible. To do this, you must be properly prepared. We provide all of the technical gear that you will need for an awesome adventure. However, we ask that you please bring your own clothing - including but not limited to: comfortable climbing pants or shorts and some insulating layers and jackets. When selecting clothing for your adventure, choose synthetic materials to wick away sweat.

For your convenience, we have the mandatory gear available for rent! We also have a small selection of clothing available for rent if you are missing anything listed above. Upon completion of registration, you will receive a welcome packet via email with a gear rental form that you will complete and return to reserve the gear you need for you adventure!

GENERAL POLICIES

NEMs Adventure plans and itineraries are subject to change or adjustment based on a number of factors. These include, but are not limited to, route conditions, weather, terrain, and many other factors. NEM has complete discretion to change plans to accommodate any of these or other factors, including discretion to change program schedule or itinerary, and change guides or staff, as necessary for the proper and safe conduct of the program.

We reserve the right to cancel any program due to inadequate signups, weather or route conditions. In such a case, an NEM credit for the full value is given; however, NEM cannot be responsible for any additional expenses incurred in preparing for the program (i.e., airline tickets, equipment purchase or rental, hotel reservations).

NEM reserves the right to dismiss the Participant from a trip at any time if NEM determines, in its sole discretion, that the Participant is not physically, technically, or psychologically prepared for or capable of participating in the program. This includes being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

SUMMIT ATTEMPT

Northeast Mountaineering cannot guarantee that you will reach the summit. Weather, route conditions, your own abilities or the abilities of others may create circumstances that make an ascent unsafe, and you or your entire party will have to turn around without reaching the summit. Your program fee entitles you to one summit attempt on your specified dates.

RISK MANAGEMENT

Safety is NEM’s number one priority. Our guides manage significant hazards inherent in the mountains such as avalanches, ice fall, rock fall, inclement weather, and high winds, but they cannot eliminate them. NEM guides draw from their wealth of experience and training to make sound decisions that maximize your experience without compromising the necessary margin of safety. Please clearly understand that mountaineering and all other mountain adventures are inherently hazardous sports. You are choosing to engage in an activity in which participants have been injured and killed. While those accidents are indeed infrequent, they may occur at any time and be out of our control. We ask that participants acknowledge the risk and hazards of these sports, and make their own choices about whether or not to engage in these activities.

DOMESTIC ADVENTURES

Payment in full is due at the time of booking. Cancellations outside of 7 days are fully refundable except for a $50 service fee. There will be no refunds for cancellations made less than 7 days before your program. Unfortunately, due to the time-sensitive nature of our business, and the difficulty in re-booking a trip close to departure, we cannot make exceptions to this policy. Payments may be made via MasterCard, Visa, American Express, or check.

INTERNATIONAL ADVENTURES

A non-refundable deposit of $500 per person secures your reservation but may vary - please check the individual pages. Payments may be made via MasterCard, Visa, American Express, or check. Final payment is due 1 month [30 days] before departure - but may vary.

CANCELLATION

There will be no refunds for cancellations made less than 7 days before your program. Unfortunately, due to the time-sensitive nature of our business, and the difficulty in re-booking a trip close to departure, we cannot make exceptions to this policy.

CHANGE OF DATE

Date changes are subject to availability and apply only to the current climbing season. Date changes may be requested at anytime up to 7 days prior to your departure date for a $25 fee per person. Date changes may be requested at anytime up to 3 days prior to your departure date for a $50 fee per person. There are no date changes allowed less than 2 days before departure.
