Is Iceland Safe?
Yes. The people of Iceland are extremely friendly and very accommodating to foreigners.
Is this the right trip for me?
The beauty of Iceland is that there is friendly and enjoyable terrain for a lot of different ability and comfort levels. We recommend Iceland as your introductory trip to international skiing with NEM. With that said, all participants should be proficient resort riders and we comfortable on all trails, groomed and un-groomed, in the resort. You should also have some prior uphill experience and be familiar with your touring gear. Avalanche education is not required but recommended and participants should be familiar with their avalanche transceiver. You should be able to climb 3000 feet in a day at a pace of approximately 1000ft/hour or 1mph. We highly recommend booking an avalanche course with us or a private touring day in New Hampshire to prepare for your trip.
Do I need to purchase additional insurance?
Yes. We highly recommend rescue insurance through Global Rescue. Additionally, we highly recommend that you purchase trip insurance. In the case where you trip is cut short, this is how you will get a full refund.
Do I need to bring extra medications?
Yes. You should bring basic medications in addition to any prescriptions that you need. Consider bringing a small kit with Ibuprofen, Tums, Ant-Acids, etc.
What will the lodging be like?
We will be based out of an AirBnB in the Akureyri area. Rooms will likely be double-occupancy. The AirBnB will have all of the comforts of home.
Can I carpool?
Yes. We highly encourage it and will help you arrange this with your teammates.
Will I meet my teammates before the trip?
Yes! We will host two Zoom meetings before departure to make sure everyone is on the same page and to answer any questions you may have. One meeting will be held several months before departure and the second will be approximately 1 week before departure.
We are proud to work with the Department of Agriculture, the White Mountain National Forest and the Androscoggin Ranger District where we are authorized outfitter guides.
