WINTER IS NOW IN THE WHITE MOUNTAINS

WITH ALMOST 2 FEET OF SNOW ON WASHINGTON AND ICE BUILDING, COLD TEMPS THE EXCITEMENT IS RAMPANT.

Over the past week the summit of Mount Washington has seen nearly 2 feet of snowfall and the higher elevations are full on winter conditions. With the mild temperatures this time of year it is the perfect time to get into the mountains without the crowds! Just be careful of your footing, it can be tricky since the rocks aren’t filled in with snow and ice, yet. Explore Your Mountain Through Trail Adoption

The network of historic, scenic hiking trails in New Hampshire’s White Mountains is vast – with more than 1,200 miles of rocky paths leading to granite-topped summits, pristine ponds, and remote wilderness areas.

Some routes, such as Davis Path and Crawford Path, are among the oldest hiking trails in the United States. Others, like the rugged landslides of Tripyramid Trail and Flume Slide Trail, are products of nature – marked with the purpose of indicating clear, albeit painfully steep, paths of ascent.

Due to the number of footpaths in the White Mountains, organizations such as the Appalachian Mountain Club and the US Forest Service depend on work from volunteers to help clear and maintain many of their trails. They are always looking for help! Continue reading →

The White Mountains of New Hampshire are a landscape photographer’s paradise with countless mountain vistas accessible via a vast network of trails that follow along cascading rivers, meander thought boreal forests, climbing to some of the most rugged mountain summits you’ll find anywhere.
